Melissa Gibbs Bio
Airshed Coordinator, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality
Melissa Gibbs, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, attended school in both South Carolina and Florida. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1995 with a B.S. in Oceanography. In 1998 she received a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from the Florida Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, Melissa relocated to Idaho. Since 2000 Melissa has been employed by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality as an Airshed Coordinator for Pocatello Regional Office.
As an Airshed Coordinator, Melissa deals with many aspects of air quality including burning, transportation conformity, public education, outreach, monitoring, compliance, enforcement, and State Implementation Plans (SIPs). Melissa oversees the Idaho side of the Cache Valley PM2.5 Nonattainment Area. Working on the Cache Valley SIP has been a challenging process requiring coordination and cooperation with Utah Division of Air Quality as well as two EPA regions.
